Releasing today, the latest patch for Rust will see the game have a season-appropriate coating of snow in what some are simply referring to as the “arctic” update. A couple of images have been deployed around the internet, which teases a new Arctic Research Station, as well as the introduction of polar bears. Players can expect the new patch to roll out today at 11am PST, 2pm EST, and 7pm GMT.

On top of the snowy aesthetic, Facepunch is also addressing a rather serous issue regarding framerates. According to a report from PCGamesN, the studio has acknowledged that frames would drop for seemingly no reason. In a press release, a spokesperson for the developer says that this latest Rust patch should fix the problem, saying that the dips were likely caused by a rendering issue and the “tree imposter system.” With the arctic update, players should notice a lot more consistency with their framerate, particularly in areas that have a lot of trees and/or bushes.
There’s been a lot to get excited about when it comes to updates and new content. With the game recently getting into the Lunar New Year spirit, and last November’s patch adding a new military base to Rust, the game doesn’t seem to be dwindling any time soon. Despite the difficulty of playing and surviving, what with players that have violent tendencies and an environment that is all but trying to kill people, it doesn’t seem to deter many people.
It’s also one of the longest online survival games going, at just under 65 hours. That might not sound too long, especially given that something like DayZ boasts around 120 hours, but don’t forget that this is a multiplayer game with a lot to see and do. Anybody who’s played it, or continues to do so, knows the terror of that first night, but the reward comes from being able to survive intact in this unforgiving realm.
